Description
WTC, NYC ( 1991 )
I’m not sure of the exact date this picture was taken because it was shot on film, but it is not a composite. One day in 1990 or 1991, I ventured out to the west shoreline of Manhattan, and was struck by this rusted beam from the long ago demolition of a building on a pier
By trying to make the broken steel beam a part of the background skyline, I was trying confuse the viewer’s sense of depth and scale, but also make a visual statement that sooner or later mankind’s greatest accomplishments would be lying in ruins, not realizing at the time that a only decade later, the World Trade Center would itself be a twisted pile of broken steel.
